Magnesium Glycinate: A Complete Label Guide
Magnesium glycinate is one of the most searched magnesium forms. Here is what the name means and how to read every number on the label.

Magnesium glycinate is one of the most popular forms of magnesium on Australian shelves, and also one of the most confusing to compare. This guide explains what the name means, how it differs from other forms, and how to read each figure on our label.
What is magnesium glycinate?
Magnesium is a mineral, and in supplements it is always bound to another molecule. In magnesium glycinate, that partner is glycine, the simplest amino acid. When a mineral is bound to two glycine molecules it may be called magnesium bisglycinate, which is the form listed on our panel.
Common forms of magnesium you will see
| Form | Bound to |
|---|---|
| Magnesium glycinate / bisglycinate | Glycine (an amino acid) |
| Magnesium citrate | Citric acid |
| Magnesium oxide | Oxygen |
| Magnesium L-threonate | Threonic acid |
Each form carries a different proportion of magnesium by weight, which is why comparing the headline milligrams between forms can mislead.
Reading the Elevate Nutra label
- Serving size: 1 capsule.
- Magnesium bisglycinate 750mg is the weight of the whole compound.
- 150mg elemental magnesium is the amount of magnesium itself within that compound.
- Servings per bottle: 60.
- Capsule: vegetarian HPMC shell.
When you compare magnesium products, always compare the elemental figure per serve. We explain this further in Elemental vs compound.
