How to Store Supplements in the Australian Heat
“Store below 30°C” is easy to miss in an Australian summer. Simple tips for keeping capsules and tablets in good condition.

Most supplement labels include a storage line such as “Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, below 30°C.” In much of Australia, summer temperatures go well above that, so storage deserves a little thought.
Why storage matters
Heat, humidity and light can affect capsules and tablets over time. Capsules can soften or stick together in humid conditions, and tablets can absorb moisture. Keeping products within the conditions on the label helps them stay in good condition until the expiry date.
Places to avoid
- The car — a parked car in summer can get far hotter than the outside temperature.
- The bathroom — steam from showers makes it one of the most humid rooms in the house.
- Above the stove or kettle — heat and steam rise.
- A sunny windowsill — direct sunlight heats bottles quickly.
Better options
- A kitchen cupboard away from the oven and dishwasher.
- A bedroom drawer or wardrobe shelf.
- Somewhere out of reach of children, which is important for every supplement and especially for iron.
Keep the lid on and the bottle original
Close the lid firmly after each use, and keep any desiccant sachet in the bottle. Keeping products in their original container also keeps the directions, warnings, batch number and expiry date with them.
Should I refrigerate?
Only if the label says so. Moving bottles in and out of the fridge can cause condensation inside, which adds moisture.
Travelling
If you are travelling in summer, keep supplements in your carry bag rather than a hot boot, and avoid leaving them in a parked car.
