Iron Bisglycinate 36mg: Elemental Iron Explained
Iron labels often show two numbers. Here is what 180mg ferrous bisglycinate and 36mg elemental iron each mean.

Iron supplements are easy to misread because the label often shows two different numbers. Our Iron Bisglycinate lists 36mg of elemental iron from 180mg ferrous bisglycinate. This guide explains both.
Ferrous bisglycinate
Ferrous describes the chemical state of the iron. Bisglycinate means it is bound to two glycine molecules. The 180mg figure is the weight of this whole compound.
Elemental iron
The 36mg figure is the iron itself within the compound. This is the number to use when comparing iron products, because different iron forms (sulfate, fumarate, gluconate, bisglycinate) carry different amounts of iron by weight.

Safety first with iron
Iron is one of the supplements where storage really matters. Keep iron products out of reach of children, in their original container, with the lid tightly closed. Iron needs vary a lot between people, so it is worth asking your doctor or pharmacist whether an iron supplement suits you before you start, and checking any multivitamins you already take for iron.
